Scumbles and Glazes 4 - Lasierungen 4

Up to now I've always said it's not that helpful to copy paintings. It's still not useful if you just want to paint something that has e.g. the same subjects on a painting and nothing else. If you want to learn from it, get the same values and the atmosphere, find out how the painter built the layers or the composition, it is useful. And sometimes it's useful to change one's mind. O:-)
Edward Seago was the painter of some great landscapes and I was thrilled when I found a photo with him standing with an easel in front of him in the Antarctic. I'm happy that I don't have to stand there to see his paintings. So, I've taken one of his Antarctic paintings and took some subjects from it.

  1. Hey Ulrike you should have posted the one you did the copy from it would have been interesting to compare them. Also would love to see him painting in the Artic wow how awesome a tale! Your work is looking great and I am glad you found that learning from the masters is helpful.
